Vintage American Thread Photos

American Thread Photos

A gallery of approximately 36 photographs, the majority, taken (my estimate) in the mid 1950's and  1960's.  It appears many of the photos were shot for publicity, public or institutional relations and marketing purposes.  The work place appears too clean as does the worker's clothing and the work force  too "white" if my date estimate isn't completely wacky.

I have no idea of the manufacturing processes seen in the photos  For posterity, I would appreciate those readers with knowledge of the Thread Mill  and the various manufacturing steps contribute their thoughts in the comment section under each photo. Thank you

I WON'T Have A Picture ID When I Vote Tomorrow

There's no law in Connecticut that requires a photo ID. Instead I'll be packing a current phone bill, a Social Security card and a dilapidated copy of my birth certificate  when I  attempt to vote tomorrow.

Today's issue of Pro Publica,.org a web based news organization with the credentials of  The New York Times, contains an article on the legalities and voting rights of United States citizens
"Everything you ever wanted to know about voter ID laws spells out the varying laws from state to state.. So if you vote at the VFW and find a long line, it just maybe because of a bunch of poll workers that can't figure what to do with me.

Street Wake Boarding and Sandy

Hers's an idea to pass time and have fun after we've seen the worst of Sandy.  Our Caribbean friends in Santo Domingo saw Sandy pass Thursday, Oct. 25 2012. When the sun came out so did the wake boards and the fun began.

How to do it? A high chassis vehicle, a long robe with a handle on one end and a wake board.
Now we don't know what Sandy will bring.  If it's rain it will help that your neighborhood suffers terrible drainage.  If its snow install chains on that high chassis vehicle and  rename that wake board.....snow board.  If it's ice get out those ice skates.

Garden Bridge Underpass

The route 32 underpass in the old days, now The Garden on the Bridge. There were many underpass vs truck incidents over the years but the grand daddy of all troublesome railroad underpasses is located in Durham NC. It has been made famous by a couple web-cams and it's own web site.

The Bridge Always Wins

website: http://11foot8.com/

Recognizing the potential for rich cinéma vérité, a local man named Jürgen Henn has taken it upon himself to act as the official videographer of this panel-crumpling bridge. On his YouTube channel, he's compiled dozens of wince-worthy scalpings; he also maintains a website, 11 Foot 8, where he attempts to answer all questions related to this nightmare of traffic-infrastructure logistics.

Presidential Debates: 8 Zingers, Gaffes & 'Moments'

Kennedy-Nixon Debate, Sept. 26, 1960

A presidential debate, and indeed an election, can end up turning on a quip, a gaffe, a comment,a move , or even something as simple as a sigh.
Here is a vidio slideshow of some of the biggest debate zingers, gaffes and "moments" since presidential debates were first nationally televised in 1960
